  • Refurbishment of Acle post office

Acle’s Post Office will be closing for 6 days in November to enable final refurbishment work to be carried out.

New Subpostmaster Neal Gurney has been working tirelessly to improve Acle Post Office since he took over in June.  Improvements have been made to the exterior and the shop now offers a lovely selection of quality greetings cards and gift ideas. Now the branch is about to undergo a major facelift which will see it close for 6 days from 6th November  to 11th November.  The new look branch will then reopen at 1:00pm on Wednesday 12th November.

Mr Gurney is delighted that Post Office Ltd has agreed to invest in the branch. He said “We’ve been making improvements since we took over but these final works will really make a difference”.  Mr Gurney says the refurbishment will include a new semi-automatic door along with new front windows, updated signage, new flooring throughout and a suspended ceiling which will help provide better lighting.

He added “This work should help the Post Office remain a vital part of the community. We’re hoping that the improvements will encourage people to visit more frequently and see the great products we sell and variety of services we now offer over the counter.”

At age 21 Neal took over his first Post Office and staked his claim as ‘Britain’s youngest Sub Postmaster’. His branch on Thunder Lane in Thorpe St Andrew has just been crowned ‘Best Agency Branch’ in a field of over 8000. Now he hopes he can do the same with Acle Post Office. “The staff at Acle are great, they have a massive amount of knowledge on all the various products and services we offer in the Post Office. I see no reason why we can’t put Acle on the map and make it an Award winning Post Office too.”

To celebrate the work being completed, local MP Keith Simpson will be cutting the red ribbon at an official reopening ceremony on Friday 21st November. Mr Gurney is encouraging local residents to come along and join them for a champagne celebration.

In addition to the work, the Post Office is now open until 5:30pm on Saturdays, meaning it is now open 6 full days a week from Monday to Saturday from 9:00am to 5:30pm.
